Recent years have seen a regeneration of Claremont and it is now a much visited suburb of Cape Town. Upmarket shops, boutiques and a home to fashion designers of renown. Two large shopping malls are sited with most of the major retailers represented. Specialist and upmarket shops frequent the wide pavement streets in the areas adjacent to the malls. For shoppers, Claremont is a mecca.
Claremont is about 15 to 20 minutes drive from the centre of Cape Town with two road routes into the city. An alternative way to travel into the city is by train from Claremont station.
For cricket and rugby fans Claremont is close to the national Newlands stadium. Kirstenbosch botanical gardens are just minutes away. The grounds to Kirstenbosch are large and visitors should prepare for a days outing if visiting every part. Don't forget your sun hat and protective cream although there are plenty of shady places to sit Kirstenbosch restaurant serves refreshments, a variety of food and some delicious cakes.
B&B, guest houses, hotels, self catering apartments and houses are all available in Claremont and there are some beautiful small Victorian cottages which can be rented for short or longer periods. As with all areas of Cape Town the Southern Suburbs including Claremont gets busy with visitors from all other areas of South Africa during the December and January holiday months so if your intending visiting at that time then book early for the best choice.
