Taking it's name from the original farm of Constantia which was granted to governor Simon van der Stel in 1685 the suburb still has a country feel with the oak tree lined lanes and streets.
While the original farm was split into three after Simon van der Stel's death, now Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and Bergvliet, the vineyards still produce some of the best white wines in the world. If you are privileged to be able to take a holiday break staying in Constantia a visit to the vineyards must be a priority.
The Cape Dutch style buildings, original architecture, historical facts coupled with visits to the wine cellars and dining at the restaurants or picnic in the grounds make a wonderful days outing.
Constantia is now made up of residential properties mostly upmarket in large grounds, a shopping mall, smaller shops and the vineyards. Holiday accommodation in Constantia consists of self catering holiday homes, guest houses and hotels.
Rental rates reflect the upmarket location, normally being in the mid to luxury and expensive range. However the privacy and facilities of the accommodation rentals leaves little to be desired.
Interesting locations close to Constantia include Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Tokai Forest hikes, walks and mountain bike tracks, Tokai arboretum, False Bay coast, beaches, villages and towns.
