Kalk Bay is a fishing village on the False Bay coast about 29 kms from Cape Town city. Kalk Bay's small harbour is lively with numerous small fishing vessels coming and going during the day. Fresh fish can usually be purchased on the return of the boats.
The village itself is quaint but vibrant especially during the summer holiday months. It's main road is narrow and lined with interesting shops including art galleries, antique shops, bookshops, craft shops, fashion, jewelers and some excellent restaurants. The Brass Bell Inn is well known and very popular with visitors for its reasonably priced meals served inside or outside just a few meters from the sea.
Surfers know this area well as it is the home of the Kalk Bay Reef.
