About Bettys Bay
Betty's Bay is a small holiday town situated in the Overberg coast of South Africa's Western Cape province. It is located beneath the rugged Kogelberg Mountains and is on the scenic R44 ocean drive. The village stretches along the coast for 5 kms or more. Back in 1912 Betty's Bay was formally a whaling station running until the 1930's. Remains of the whaling station can still be seen. Betty's Bay contains the well known Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. A wide variety of plant species attract many sugarbirds and sunbirds. At Stoney Point in Bettys Bay there is a small breeding colony of African jackass penguins. The drive along the coastal road between Cape town and Bettys Bay features some spectacular sea views and is a mecca for seascape photography. Holiday accommodation is mostly self catering holiday homes, some with spectacular sea and mountain views.
