1806 saw the second British occupation of the Cape with the battle of Blaauwberg fought at the foot of the Blouberg (blue mountain).
Blouberg is now a thriving suburb of Cape Town where residential and holiday properties are much sought after. From the fine white sandy Blouberg beaches the view across Table Bay to Table Mountain is probably the most photographed image that appears in publications and advertising material. Sunsets out across the Atlantic Ocean viewed from the beach or the numerous watering holes and restaurants along the beachfront will leave a lasting impression.
Blouberg is approximately 18 km's from the city. There are two major roads through Blouberg. The R27 (West Coast road) and the M14 (Beach road) which eventually joins the R27 at Melkbosstrand / Duynefontein. With easy access to all areas of the Cape, Blouberg is becoming increasingly popular with holiday makers. There are many self catering apartments, houses and guest houses which fill very quickly during the months of December and January. If you intend visiting during these months then best book early to get the best locations and value.
There are no shortage of shops and restaurants in the area with local cinemas and other forms of entertainment all available. Most water sports are catered for from the beach with the most popular being surfing and kite-surfing.
