About Uniondale
Uniondale is situated about 85km inland from the coastal towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay via the magnificently beautiful scenic Prince Alfred's Pass. Historically famous for the ostrich feather and wagon building industries, Uniondale is now a small farming town servicing mixed farms producing tobacco, wheat, fruit, sheep and goats. Uniondale's location at the mouth of the Langkloof valley, which is one of the largest fruit growing regions in South Africa, makes a perfect base for touring the Knysna and Oudtshoorn areas. The towns national monuments include a water mill built in 1852 and the small British built fort from the Anglo-Boer war.
The region offers a variety of activities including hiking, farm tours, 4X4 trails, game viewing and scenic drives through areas of natural beauty. Visitors will find the local Uniondale tourist office at the old Royal Hotel in Voortrekker Street.
Accommodation in the Uniondale area includes self catering, guest house, B&B, farm stays, camping and caravans. Booking is essential during the peak holiday periods and especially the months of December and January.
